Labor tracking: the estimate against the field

See which cost codes are using hours faster than the estimate planned, while there's still time to act. This works for companies that use time cards.

  • When a bid is won and becomes a project, or is linked to one, its labor hours come across as the project's budget, by cost code. Open the project and choose More → Labor.
  • Each cost code shows its budget hours, hours used, percent complete, productivity and projected total, with a status in words: On the estimate, Watch or Over.
  • Productivity needs two things: hours submitted from the field and a percent complete that you enter with Record progress. Until both exist, the line says Enter progress instead of showing a number. Projections start at 10% complete.
  • A bid built only from line items has no labor hours, so add budget lines by hand on the Labor tab.
  • To file estimate hours under your own codes, give each shop or field operation a cost code under Settings → Assemblies. Operations without one go to the SHOP or FIELD code.
  • When a cost code runs over, the project's responsible person gets a notification.
  • Profitability has a new Labor across projects table.
  • This release counts hours only. Dollars come later, with labor rates.

Cost codes, crew and crew hours

  • Settings → Cost codes holds your company's list. Every code already typed on time cards, expenses and schedule-of-values lines was copied in, so nothing is lost. New companies start with two codes, SHOP and FIELD. Time cards and expenses now pick from the list.
  • Settings → Crew lists everyone who works hours, with or without a Tempus 7 login.
  • On a Daily Communication Log, the Crew hours section records who worked, on which cost code, and their regular, overtime and double-time hours. Each row becomes a draft time card. Locking the log submits them for approval.

Schedule

  • Print full schedule, next to Lookahead PDF, prints every task, phase and milestone on 11 × 17 or letter paper, landscape or portrait. Each page repeats the project name, the date scale and a legend. In the print window, choose 11 × 17 (many printers call it Tabloid or Ledger) and turn on Background graphics so the bars print shaded.
  • Every task and phase name now has an Edit label. Click it to change the name, dates or progress, or to delete the task. Deleting a phase keeps its tasks.
  • New template: Commercial building, ground up (masonry block), 29 tasks in 8 phases from site work to the certificate of occupancy. Find it under Templates → Start from a template.

Activity Log

  • Save Activity stayed greyed out until you clicked a company in the suggestion list, and nothing said why. It now always saves, or tells you what's missing.
  • The customer is optional, for general notes.
  • Each activity has a Date and time, so you can log a call from this morning. The log shows both on every entry.
  • A bid's history now shows only that bid's activity. It used to show the latest activity across the whole company.

Documents and imports

  • The Documents list shows who uploaded the latest version, under the Updated date.
  • Import your data now reads tabs that hold a single column of text, such as Scope or Notes and Assumptions, and names any tab it can't read. When a tab fits none of the types, Leave it out and continue keeps you moving.

Languages

  • News posts are now in Spanish, as well as English and Portuguese.
  • The Terms, Privacy and Sub-processors pages are in Portuguese and Spanish. They are courtesy translations: if one differs from the English, the English version governs.
  • Error messages on forms appear in your language.

Fixes

  • Clearing a field on a daily log and saving works again.
  • Longer weather notes fit on a daily log.
  • When a cost book item has several prices, estimates use the newest one in force.
  • Profitability counts approved change orders as income, and shows draft hours apart from submitted hours.
  • Opening a news article no longer changes your language.

Where our promises stand

  • A Specifications module, with spec sections, revisions, and links from submittals and RFIs: still planned. Labor tracking went first.
